It was a night to remember at The Tunbridge Wells Hotel in the historic Pantiles, where the great and the good of the local community gathered to officially kick off this year’s event!
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a selection of esteemed guests to The Tunbridge Wells Hotel for the official launch of Crazy Jean’s 2019! Hosted by compere Tom Swift, the evening was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of this year’s soapbox race on June 8th, while also celebrating the local charities we’re working with – Hospice in the Weald and Taylor-Made Dreams.
Among the VIPs in attendance were Taylor-Made Dreams founder Suzi Mitchell, Hospice in the Weald’s fundraising relationship manager, Leeann Wilmer, and Denise Hamilton, People Team director at Childrensalon, who are returning as our headline sponsor for the second year running.
“We’re always so overwhelmed by the support we get,” said Chatty Hatter director Nicole Piesse Turner in her opening speech. “It was so much fun last year, and it’s going to be even bigger and better this year! We’re so excited to be working with Hospice in the Weald and Taylor-Made Dreams, and need to make this the charity event for Tunbridge Wells.”
As the bubbly flowed, Nicole took to the stage to introduce Suzi and Leeann, who expressed their gratitude at being joint beneficiaries. It was also their chance to tell the audience more about the important work they do, namely Hospice in the Weald’s care for patients with a terminal illness, and Taylor-Made Dreams enabling children with life-limiting illnesses to achieve their dreams.
“Taylor-Made Dreams is thrilled to be joint beneficiary alongside Hospice in the Weald for such a family-friendly day out like Crazy Jean’s,” Suzi commented. “If it’s anything like last year, it’s sure to be a roaring success, and our drivers and ready and raring to go! Thank you to the whole team at Crazy Jean’s – you may not know it, but you’re making a real difference in a magical way for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, and we applaud you.”
Added Denise: “We’re incredibly proud to be sponsors of this year’s Crazy Jean’s soapbox race. It’s so important at Childrensalon that we give back to the community, and that the race is helping both our charity partner, Taylor-Made Dreams, and Hospice in the Weald – the money raised is so invaluable, and we’re honoured to be working with these two special, important charities. It was an amazing event last year, and I know it’s going to be even better, bigger and more fun this year.”
The speeches didn’t stop there, as our very own Crazy Jean’s ambassador, celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager, likewise had a few words to say about this year’s race. With her contagious humour, energy and passion, Rosemary was a memorable highlight for visitors in 2018, finishing her day by hitching a ride on the back of local superhero and caped crusader Ringpullman’s electric unicycle!
“One of the most important things is coming together as a community,” she remarked. “It’s all about showing what Tunbridge Wells has to offer – it was brilliant last year, and I had an absolute ball! It was a fabulous occasion and a very happy one, and I know it’s going to be bigger this year, because there’s such a buzz about it. But even more importantly, it’s about raising money for these wonderful charities. What the Crazy Jean’s team have done has been an amazing thing.”
Thank you to all of the incredible people who turned out for the launch, and who continue to make Crazy Jean’s what it is today. As we enter our second year with 43 karts already confirmed, we couldn’t be more thrilled, honoured and excited for what’s to come – let’s make 2019 the unmissable event of the Tunbridge Wells social calendar, and show our support to the brilliant causes that make such a difference locally!
“That’s why we wanted to do this in the first place – to raise money for local charities in Tunbridge Wells,” concluded Nicole on the night. “Last year, we raised £21,000, but we have the potential to raise £50,000 this year, which is a massive amount of money, split across two charities. We want to do this every year, so need to get it out there – we’re doing this for these great charities, and we’re all going to have a great time!”
